College is different than high school.
That may seem like a dramatically oversimplified statement, but it's
true in a way that can hurt you if you don't take it seriously.
Assuming you are leaving town to go to college, you are leaving just
about every support system you have. Your friends, family,
the teachers you've gotten to know over the years, the familiar landmarks of
your town, even the comforts of your home are being left behind.
You are also being thrust into an environment that is
designed for self-reliance. You are on your own, and you
are expected to hit the ground running. There are resources
at most schools for new students, and you should take advantage of them,
but I want to suggest an additional resource for your success.
Student coaching is a way for you to greatly improve your
college experience in many ways. You will...
- adjust to the college experience faster.
- learn how to manage your time better, so you can do more
work in less time.
- figure out what you want to do with your life faster and
be more sure about it.
- learn the skills you'll need for success after college
during college -- while you have time to practice them.
- be far ahead of your peers when graduation comes.
Do you need
coaching?
Of course not. You don't need coaching any more than you need an A average to get your
degree. Coaching is for those who want to excel beyond
where they would get by themselves. In fact, if out-of-the-ordinary success isn't your goal, you probably shouldn't
try student
coaching. It could be a waste of your time.
If, on the other hand, you don't want an ordinary life, if you don't
want a slow climb up a cookie cutter corporate track, an acceptable
spouse, 2.3 kids, and a home in the suburbs that you can't really afford,
then you should think about what I can offer you.
I offer you a challenge.
- I challenge you to take control of your life and reach
dreams you haven't even dreamed yet.
- I challenge you to be the person other people envy.
- I challenge you to be the person you wish you could be,
but think you can't.
It's not as hard as
you think.
If you sleep 8 hours a day, that leaves you with 16 hours to work on who you think you are right now. If you think
you are lazy, you work 16 hours a day convincing yourself of that by
being lazy. If you think you are efficient, you work 16 hours a
day on that. When you work with me, you'll spend the same amount
of time you do now, but you'll learn to think of yourself in the way that best
moves you toward your dreams.
Of course it's not as easy as that. I will be asking you to be
more than you are now and to play a bigger game. I will ask
you to do what you tell me will help you succeed. All of that
is within your power if you choose to exercise it.
